I want to let you know that our CERT West Adams Team Leader Freddie Muse Jr. will be appearing on the radio this Saturday morning 9-28-24 between 0700-0800 Hours on KBLA 1580 AM. Now, before you get too excited, he won't be talking about CERT or probably anything related to it. He'll be talking about men's health issues especially those relating to our Black Men's cancer & prostate health.

As you know, Freddie, himself, is a cancer survivor and long-time advocate for men's health. Freddie, however, is a clever fellow who has the uncanny ability to embed other issues into this passion. He did that and has continued to do so with the CERT message which is near and dear to all of us. The funny thing is that it's reaped a harvest for our effort.Through his work in this area, we've gained relationships with several of our key houses of worship here in Battalion 18 including Holman United Methodist Church and the West Adams Church of Christ. West Adams Church of Christ serves as a key training site for us as well as a staging area and ANYTHING else we have ever needed.

As I stated, Freddie will be ON THE RADIO this weekend between 0700-0800 Hours on KBLA 1580 AM. Again, he'll be talking about men's health, especially prostate health for our black men. Please listen in AND, if you dare, you can call in LIVE at 800-920-1580 with questions and comments. Mizz Joy and I will be up early listening, and we hope you will be too to support and cheer on West Adams' own Freddie Muse Jr. BTW-KBLA is a local radio station broadcasting out of our Leimert Park community.

An all-new Community Emergency Response Team “Basic Training Class” is coming to the West Adams area of Los Angeles starting March 7, 2024 and continuing for six successive Thursdays. The class will teach attendees the basics of skills needed to take care of themselves, their families, and their community in the event of a disaster which delays professional responders. This year we will do Christmas for the people of the street on Friday, December 22 at 10 am.  It will be inside.  They will come into the chapel service and then be dismissed to the dining room for a brunch breakfast.  I think we would need no more than 10 volunteers from your group.  We would be done by 12:30 pm.

Due to construction, parking is limited on Towne between 4th - 5th. We may be able to hold 2-3 spots in front. Your team may need to find parking throughout the surrounding area if additional are needed.

So nice to talk with you today.  As I mentioned this year’s Thanksgiving will not be as big as in the past.  We will be having a chapel service in our chapel and then the guests will go into our dining room for the Thanksgiving meal.  I have you down for Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from 8:00 am to 12 noon.  We are doing time slots so everyone has an opportunity to serve.  As I mentioned we do have that day filled with all the volunteer spots. 

We talked about seeing if your team would like to come on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. They would be able to help me with all the prep work for the meal in the kitchen.

1) June 5, 2021... The Men's Cancer Network, Inc. will be joining with F.A.C.E.S (Fighting Against Cancer for Everyone in the Spirit) to bring a Live-In Person Prostate Cancer Event, where people can have more prostate cancer awareness and learn more about it by hearing from their guest experts and survivors  Face masks & social distancing are required. The event will take place on Saturday, 6-5-21, starting at 11am PST, at the Inglewood Southside Christian Church (3947 W. 104th St., Inglewood, CA, 90303).  2) June 26, 2021...The Men's Cancer Network, Inc. will be hosting its Cancer Support Group Meeting on June 26, 10am PT. The topics discussed in the event will be Men's health and care-giving on prostate, testicular, and male breast cancer, along with heart disease and diabetes. Guest speakers are Dr. Owen Ellington, the National Medical Director of The Wound Pros, and Dr. Randall Maxey, the Chief Medical Officer of the Advance Community Medical Care Corporation. There is a focus meeting on Preparedness on Saturday, February 20th that you can attend to learn more about this project and how your neighborhood can be added and you can help facilitate during an Emergency or Disaster, this is bigger than all of us put together. December-2020 has been a month of wrap-ups for us. We officially ended our campaign of PPE-GIVEAWAYS & TENNIS SHOE-GIVEAWAYS as of December 31, 2020. We also wrapped up our fiscal year this month to end 2020. We joined in with our CERT TEAMS (NTP) Neigborhood Team Project to better serve our Neigborhoods & Communities in the case of any Emergency that impacts our communities.

Our PPE-GIVEAWAY continues this month with a scheduled event on Tuesday October 20, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.. We have partnered with the L.A. COUNTY DEPT. OF PUBLIC HEALTH who will provide FREE FLU-SHOTS to the community, and we will provide PPE'S also FREE TO THE COMMUNITY. This event will be held at Charles Drew University across the street from MLK-HOSPITAL. We want you, your family, and your community SAFE from Covid-19, Volunteers are welcome to join us there, Amen.

Special thanks to the Honorable Mayor of San Diego, CA Mr. Kevin Faulconer for Providing us with the Proclamation declaring September as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month-2020, we drove down to San Diego to pick up the Proclamation on Friday October 2, 2020. We are thankful that the men are now aware of this month of Awareness and get themselves screened for this disease. Amen. 

 We want to thank General Manager Mr. Ed Gardner for working with us again in 2020 for Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The Downtown DMV has Blue Ballons and signs all over the office to raise Awareness of Prostate Cancer in Los Angeles,CA, Amen.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month-2020-Proclamation...Special thanks to the Honorable Mayor of Beverly Hills CA Mr. John Mirisch for recognizing September as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. We received this Pretigious Award on Friday September 11, 2020, and we would like to share with the men in Beverly Hills that (CANCER SCREENINGS SAVES LIVES) Prostate Cancer will not take a back seat to Covid-19, it's just as prevalent as ever before, so men if you are 40 yeasrs of age or older please  get screened, Early Detection has always been the key to surviving any Cancer. The blood test -PSA is the best measure to detect Prostate Cancer. 

Also this September...Our PPE-GIVEAWAY continues with providing masks & gloves to 4-different Homeless Shelters,Casa de Vida-Family Shelter, The Landing-Transitional Age Youth Program, The Shepard House-Family Shelter, and the Genesis House-Family Shelter. All will receive the PPE'S by September 15, 2020
